Should lake management install no trespassing signs to protect its shoreline property?
Lake Murray Watch is looking into complaints about shoreline clearing at Woodside Shores in Newberry County. The clearing took place sometime around the end of August. Woodside Shores, is located several miles from the 391 highway bridge and has approximately 70 water front lots.
The clearing occurred on Dominion owned land in a “ non-disturb” lake front area. The sale of lake front, Dominion owned lands, for development is on hold pending the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) approval of Dominion’s federal license.
Lake Watch visited the development, located the clearing site and verified that the complaints were in fact valid. Lake Watch documented the infractions then inspected the remaining shoreline and found evidence of minor clearing at four other sites. It also discovered that at least four property owners were beaching boats on a full time basis which is not allowed. Docks are not allowed at this project at this time. All infractions were promptly reported to Lake Management.
Dominion promptly responded indicating they had identified the location of the infraction, the individual responsible, and would be working up an aggressive remediation plan.
Lake Watch is recommending that Dominion install “No Trespassing” signs on all Dominion properties at this development, until all lake front residents sign a “Vegetative Protective” agreement.
This is the third time that under brushing using heavy equipment has occurred at this development. Dominion has a responsibility under federal law to protect and enhance the scenic, environmental, and recreational resources of the project. For more go to www.lakemurraywatch.com
